My Weight Loss Story

Before weight loss surgery my life was consumed with obsessing over losing weight, punishing myself with hateful self-talk, numbing myself with food, and experiencing constant anxiety. I suffered from severe underrating as a teenager, and later after a miscarriage turned to binge eating to cope with my postnatal depression. My weight then yo-yo-ed, increasing after every diet I tried. I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery after finding a tumor in my thyroid when my second baby was just 8 weeks old. Thankfully the tumor was benign but it gave me a health scare I could not step back from. I knew the physical restriction of a tiny tummy would cause me to lose weight regardless of the lifestyle I was living but that long term it was my mental health and nutrition knowledge which would see me succeed or fail. So, I invested in life coaching and self-development and I studied nutrition, educating myself on sustainable weight loss, reverse dieting and long-term weight maintenance strategies. Now I am the healthiest and happiest I have ever been, and my decision to have bariatric surgery is one of the best moments of my life.

My favourite non-scale victory is being able to be active with my kids - skiing, snorkelling, hiking, horse riding, going to theme parks, etc. all activities I would have skipped.
